Cheap AMD CPU - Buy Phenom II AM3 X4 955 3.2Ghz Quad Core

Updated May 2013Can you still buy this AMD CPU somewhere? Probably not if you don't dig hard enough. All major PC hardware distributors have pull them off shelf some time ago. This Phenom II CPU was available to buy in 2011-2012 and was discontinued by AMD later in 2012. If you have a motherboard that only works with Phenom II AMD3 CPUs, you may have to buy a mother board if your CPU has gone bad. As an once-was computer dealer and system integrator, we never fully understood why CPU  makers change processor model and architectures so frequently. The lifespan of some CPUs is only few months. Sometimes a generation of processors had been phased out before motherboard manufacturers were able to fully resolve all bugs on the motherboards designed specifically for that generation of processors. They release CPUs with faster speed so often that many computer vendors had to stuck with brand new but already outdated processors all the time. Unlike system RAM memory modules for which the prices trend down in general but could go up occasionally when supplies fail to meet demands, you can only expect CPU prices to drop. Therefore, it is not wise for PC dealers to have large volume of processors in stock. However, you will not have any cost advantages if you don't buy certain level of inventory for a particular CPU. That's why it is very difficult for small computer companies to survive well. Costs for tier 1 PC makers to buy major computer hardware and software components are significantly lower that small system houses can buy. During the years when localized and regional computer trade shows were a very popular marketplace for consumers, it was not hard to dump any excessive inventories over a weekend at the trade show. With over a thousand buyers in the trade show per day, you could virtually get rid of anything you want as long as your prices were competitive.
