In computer industry , an
optical disc drive is a disk drive using laser light or electromagnetic
waves near the light spectrum as part of the process of reading or
writing data to or from optical discs. Some drives such as DVD ROM can
only read from discs, but the popular drives nowadays are both readers
and recorders. Optical recorders are called burners or writers, such as
CD burner and DVD writer. Compact discs, DVDs and Blu-ray discs are
common types of optical media which can be read and recorded by such
drives. |

With
significant cost reductions of DVD products, compact disc drives, i.e.,
CD Rom drives and CD writers, have been phased out the market
completely, which makes DVD a dominate optical disk drive in the
personal computer industry
today. |
